Mr. Barragato is the founding partner of Charles A. Barragato & Co., LLP. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York State, Mr. Barragato has over three decades of experience providing tax planning and business advisory services to high net-worth individuals and privately held businesses. He also holds the Certified Fraud Examiner ("CFE") designation and provides expert services in connection with business investigations and fraud cases. Mr. Barragato's professional experience includes two and one-half years with KPMG, a global accounting and tax advisory firm.
Mr. Barragato is an active member of a number of professional organizations, including: the American Institute of CPA's, the New York State Society of CPA's ("NYSSCPA"), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is a past president of the NYSSCPA's Suffolk Chapter, and has also served as chairman of its General Taxation Committee. Mr. Barragato was presented with the Chapter's "1995-1996" Distinguished Service Award" in recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to this highly respected professional organization.
Mr. Barragato contributes articles to The CPA Journal, The Practical Accountant, Management Accounting, Taxation for Accountants, Taxation for Lawyers, Tax Ideas, California CPA, Practical Tax Strategies and provides commentary on tax and accounting issues to The Journal of Taxation, Newsday, TheStreet.com and The Wall Street Journal. He also serves on the board of a widely-held family of mutual funds and contributes his time and expertise to a number of nonprofit organizations.
Additionally, Mr. Barragato holds the rank of Professor of Accounting and Taxation at the C.W. Post School of Professional Accountancy and has also lectured extensively before professional groups. In recognition of his leadership, communication and classroom skills, Mr. Barragato received the Foundation for Accounting Education's outstanding discussion leader award, as well as the NYSSCPA's coveted "1996-1997 Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award".
Mr. Barragato earned a B.S. Degree (Summa Cum Laude) from the Long Island University - C.W. Post School of Professional Accountancy and a Master's Degree in Taxation from the same institution. He earned his Ph.D. in business (concentration in accounting) from the CUNY Graduate Center - Baruch College.
